After clicking "Sign in" and entering my User Name and Password, the login box just pops up again. |
|
|
| |
Please ensure that you are entering the correct user name and password as defined by the e-mail sent to you at the start of the class. The User Name must be prefixed with the domain name and a backslash, exactly as specified in the initial e-mail. Please note that the password is case-sensitive.
If you Cut & Paste your password, it's very easy to also pick up the hidden end-of-line character at the end. Count the characters in your password, and count the dots when you paste it into the password box. Make sure you don't have an extra.

When I click "Sign in", the system does not prompt me with a log-in box asking for my username and password. |

This academy site uses Windows Authentication to control access to a SharePoint web site. Some companies use packet filtering in their firewalls that block the authentication process. Please try the following if you are having a problem connecting to the Classroom site:
- Add the SharePoint site "http://www.MSPAcademy.com" to your Trusted site list. This list can be access from the "Tools - Internet Options" menu in IE. Select the "Security" tab, then select "Trusted Site", and then click the "Sites" button.
- Access the site from outside of your corporate firewall. Some users have reported that they can only access the site from home or using connections that by-pass their firewall.
If you are still unable to access the site, please let us know what Operating system and Web browser you are using. Windows XP or higher and IE 7.0 or higher provide the best user experience with SharePoint sites.

Which version of Microsoft Office are supported? |
|
|
| |
Microsoft Office 2003 and Microsoft Office 2007 are supported. When Microsoft Office 2007 is selected, on the Compatibility Report page, Office applications will not open in a new window.
Other versions of Office may cause problems with viewing Microsoft Producer presentation (Media) files.

I receive errors when I attempt to view Media. |
|
|
| |
Office 2003 or Office 2002 plus the "Office Animation Runtime" plug-in are required to view this media. For more information, please click here.
In addition, some students have problems streaming the media due to firewalls or internet filters in effect on their network. If you think this may be the case for you, there is a "Download as Zip" link next to each media file that will download the entire presentation to your hard drive.
How long will the download take? A notoriously difficult question to answer because so much depends on what kind of connection you are using and how large the file is. The zipped files vary from 18 meg to 122 meg. A test download on a DSL line within the US took 4 minutes for a 44 meg file. If you have a high speed connection, you might figure approximately 10 meg per minute. If you have a dial up connection the time will be longer.
Can I still watch it on line? Yes, the link that you access by clicking on the name of the presentation will operate as it has in the past. It will allow you to view the presentation on line.
Can I download other assignments or just "media" assignments? You have always been able to download assignments typed as "Reading". Right click on the title of the reading and select "save target as". The link on the upper
left of your classroom page (labeled "Zipped Week n Reading") will allow you to download all the reading assignments for that week in one zipped file.
Assignments typed as "Lab Link" are links that take you off of the classroom site onto the public MSDN site. You cannot download that site.
Can I download more than one media file-set at one time? Unfortunately, no. Currently you can download only one media file-set at a time.
What if the download gets interrupted? Unfortunately, there is no self-recovery provided by Internet Explorer. There are third party download managers that enhance Internet Explorer's download capabilities. If you use a third party control to provide improved download speed or to support restarting the download process, please ensure that the 3rd party download manger supports Windows Authentication.

Why am I challenged for my user name and password when I try to play a media file? |
|
|

Internet Explorer does not pass your credentials to Windows Media Player. Enter your user name and password (i.e. learn\username) or download the file and play it on your local machine.

Why don’t I receive emails sent to the Class alias? |
|
|
| |
Some email servers, or SPAM filters, block email that is forwarded by the MSPAcademy mail server. When a users sends an email to the class alias, the MSPAcademy mail server forwards the message to all members of the class. Since the email is from the user ( user@mydomain.com) and the email is sent by MSPAcademy.com some mail servers will treat the email as SPAM and refuse to accept it. The basic rule is that if the From domain is not equal to the domain sending the email then the message may be treated as SPAM.
To correct this problem, please contact your mail administrators and have MSPAcademy.com added to the Whitelist for email.
